Region Director
Division of Family & Children Services

Job Description

The Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) is seeking experienced executives for our Region Director/Metro Atlanta

DFCS is the part of DHR that investigates child abuse; finds foster homes for abused and neglected children; helps low income, out-of-work parents get back on their feet; assists with childcare costs for low income parents who are working or in job training; and provides numerous support services and innovative programs to strengthen families.
Under broad supervision the Region Director oversees and manages the quality and delivery of all DFCS programs within an assigned regional/field area* through the direct supervision of DFCS County Directors, Family Independence Regional Manager, and Office of Child Protection Field Program Specialists.

Additionally, the Region Director directs and manages the human resources, facility, budget, and other related administrative functions within the area. Leads and/or participates in local and statewide projects and community initiatives as requested.
* Cherokee (Canton)/Cobb (Marietta)/Douglas (Douglasville) -or- Rockdale (Conyers)/Gwinnett (Lawrenceville) -or- Clayton (Jonesboro)/Fayette (Fayetteville)/Henry (Stockbridge)
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Education, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field and five years of professional experience in a human service delivery program which was in a service planning, evaluation, and/or delivery capacity, two (2) years of which were at the management level involving direct supervision of one or more subordinate managers and/or supervisors.

Note: Undergraduate course work may not be substituted for the experience requirement. A Master's degree in a human service discipline may be substituted one (1) year of the non-managerial experience.
Our ideal candidate will have proven executive experience equivalent to the level of a County Director, Deputy Director, or Section Director. Additionally, he/she will possess demonstrated knowledge & experience in one or more of the following:
  • Supervision of supervisors
  • Managerial experience equivalent to the level of County Director, Deputy Director, or Section Director
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and techniques of administrative management, including organization, planning, staffing, training, budgeting and reporting
  • Extensive knowledge of agency programs, policies, and objectives
  • Ability to plan, evaluate, and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in developing, implementing, and interpreting policies and procedures
  • Ability to make independent judgments and decisions
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively
