| The Georgia
Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities
(DBHDD) is a new agency that commissioned on July
1, 2009. Formerly known as the Georgia Department of Human Resources,
Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Addictive
Diseases. The new agency will continue to provide these services to
the citizens of Georgia - but with a different organizational/operational
structure. |
| The Georgia
Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities
(DBHDD), is seeking qualified physicians for the position of Psychiatrist/Chief
Medical Officer.
The Psychiatrist/Chief Medical Officer directs medical and other
assigned services for the DBHDD.
The Physician provides leadership and consultation on medical services
to multiple state DBHDD institutions, DBHDD agencies under contract
and to state level managers. Functions will include leadership of
the statewide medical executive committee, initiation of policies
and protocols of clinical care for hospital and community services,
strategic planning, development of system performance and outcome
measures, establishing relationships with medical schools and provides
leadership on physician recruitment and retention efforts. Provides
medical leadership concerning consumer protection including hospital
and community/peer reviews and reviews of deaths. Represents the
state at national functions. Ensures that state facilities comply
with all applicable certification, licensure, and accreditation
standards. Provides expert medical consultation and advice to Division
and/or facility management. Directs the work of assigned supervisory,
professional, and support staff. |
| Qualifications |
| A valid license to practice
medicine from any state; once hired, a Georgia medical license will
be required and Board Certification in Psychiatry
as well as five years of experience in the practice of medicine, three
years of which included a medical management and/or administrative
role in the field of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and
Addictive Diseases.
Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and requirements of funding
and accrediting organizations, such as JCAHO (Joint Commission on
the Accreditation of Health Organizations) and CMS (Center for Medicare
and Medicaid Services); and supervisory experience at a state MHDDAD
hospital and/or community MHDDAD program preferred.
