Physical Activity Consultant
Division of Public Health
Office of Healthy Behaviors

Job Description

The Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR), Division of Public Health, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Physical Activity Program Consultant I in the Office of Healthy Behaviors.
Under limited supervision, provides leadership in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the comprehensive nutrition and physical activity plan to prevent obesity and other chronic diseases. Recruits and orients new partners; plans and chairs workgroup meetings; provides consultation and technical assistance to partners in the development and implementation of comprehensive plans and community physical activity interventions. Provides expertise and leadership in assessing training needs and implementing training plans related to physical activity (e.g. best practices, national guidelines, caloric expenditure) for the prevention of obesity and reduction of related chronic diseases. Prepares grant proposals and reports with state and district personnel.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and theree years experience performing work related to area of assignment OR Master's degree in a related field and one year experience performing work related to area of assignment OR Seven years experience performing work related to area of assignment.

Note: Some positions may require licensure.

Preference will be give to applicants who, in addition to meeting the above requirements, possess the following:
• Master’s Degree Physical Activity or Public Health (exercise science, physical education, health promotion) and significant related work experience.
• Demonstrated competence in planning, implementing and evaluation of public health physical activity interventions and/or programs.
• Knowledge of best practices related to physical activity and the prevention of obesity and other chronic diseases, and the socio-ecological model.
• Experience in evidence-based, and coordinated physical activity programming through consultation, technical assistance, and training.
• Experience in collaborations and/or coalition building and maintenance.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; verbally and in writing.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with an ability to work with a diverse group of people and multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience demonstrating competence in group facilitation, collaborations and/or coalition building.
• Capability of assuming responsibility with minimum supervision, problem solving and setting priorities.

Note: Current state employees are subject to the statewide salary plan administration practices. This position is a pay grade 15 on the satewide salary plan.
